August 27, 2005Tutoring Firms Are Gaining From NCLBIn an August 4, 2005, an MS-NBC Report indicates tutoring firms (for profit, and non-profit), because schools and districts are ailing under the NCLB law, are doing well. Public schools are going to be funneling $900M to these private companies to tutor kids from schools that are not making adequate yearly progress. And, there are no standards that such firms need to maintain to get these funds, according to the article. Among other issues: Beth Swanson of Chicago Public Schools figures that means only 25,000 students will get services in the coming year, down from 80,000."
