published these articles earlier in the week.
I, being one classified as suburban sprawl as well, do hope that prior to the circulation of their petition, the parents of Swan Creek researched change.
I empathize with their current dilema and hope they asked about student growth or population and facility needs in Oregon. As well, I want to encourage a review of property tax.
I believe facility needs and high property taxes affect all of us. Even those in the surrounding areas. I'd like to share:
A $300,000 assessed value home will pay more in Oregon than Fitchburg.
Fitchburg Mill Rate = 0.019 while
Oregon Mill Rate = 0.022
As in the city of Madison, Fitchburg percent to MMSD = 46%
Oregon percent to public school = 52%
Local tax in Fitchburg = 30% while
Local tax in Oregon = 28%
yet due to the increased mill rate; the amount will be higher.
These are frustrating times. If many of us would take time to research, we would discover the percentage of school property tax is higher in many of our surrounding surburbian areas.
