April 23, 2007Merge lobbying & PR to save teaching positionsThe MMSD could save one or more teaching positions by combining two positions – public relations and government relations. The government relations position seems unnecessary given the excellent work of Arlene Silviera and the Wisconsin Alliance for Excellent Schools. They have done more in a few short months than the MMSD has ever done to raise awareness about inadequate state funding. Additionally, most district do not employ a lobbyist, but rely on the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials, Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators, Wisconsin Council for Administrators of Special Services, and other organizations lobbying in the state Capitol Put the two positions together and the MMSD loses nothing and saves services delivered directly to students.
