February 22, 2012Chicago's Democratically-Led Elementary Schools Far Out-Perform Chicago's "Turnaround Schools"Chicago has 210 neighborhood elementary schools that serve 95% or more low-income students (largely grades prekindergarten to eight in Chicago). Chart 1 depicts the distribution of schools in the state in terms of the numbers of percent low-income schools and shows that a very high percentage of schools that are 95% or more low-income are located in the Chicago Public Schools.
