Tell the School Board How You Feel About This Program Cut


Please complete the following survey about MMSD's elementary strings program and the proposed elimination of this academic curriculum. We will tabulate the answers and give them to the Madison School Board at a future board meeting.

1. Should MMSD keep elementary strings program in Grades 4 and 5?

In the March 10, 2005, Isthmus, Richard Davis, a UW-Madison emeritus professor of music and an internationally known bassist who has worked with young musicians said, "Underprivileged children will suffer the most. It's another way of letting only those who can afford it get the opportunities. The fear is that you're going to have a very one-sided, warped community, where one world will have all of the exposure and sophistication, and the other world won't." Do you agree this this statement?

5. Currently, the elementary strings course offers two large group rehearsals per week. Would you be in favor of what surrounding districts offer, which is one small group lesson per week and one large group rehearsal per week?
